Our internship is intended for those seriously interested in getting into farming as a profession and life. Interns work closely with the farmer and farm managers in all aspects of our operation from greenhouse to planting to harvesting and marketing. We realize our interns are here to learn as well as work. We are committed to teaching what we know and learning from your interests. Time is set aside weekly for informal classes and to work on individual projects and journals.  We invite speakers from many aspects of the agriculture field and encourage visits to other farms in the area.  We also require our interns to take a week off the farm sometime in July to explore Alaska and recharge your batteries.

We start our operation in March but we can’t house interns until early May since we can’t get reliable water to the cook tent and shower until then. We usually have 3 interns.  We ask that interns spend from early May through September with us.  The base monthly stipend is $500.  Interns are here to learn farming as well as work.  We have textbooks and conduct both formal and informal “classes” on all aspects of farming.  Early in the season there is more teaching and learning the ropes and later it is more plug and chug through the harvest.  Depending on the success of the season there in the possibility of a  harvest bonus at the end of the summer.   Interns are required to live here on the farm and although we do live 16 miles from town someone is usually going in to town every day.  It is a good hour (or more) bike ride to town.  The schedule revolves around a 40-45 hour work week.  Interns are also required to be “on call” one weekend per month and one night per week (moose and frost watch).

We compile the applications from the fall until late winter and like to make our decisions sometime  in March.  What we need is  a resume, three references, and a letter stating why you’d like to be an intern on our farm.  Some questions to consider are:  why farming?; why farming in Alaska?; how would you be an asset to our farm?; and what are your goals beyond any work here?.  Please send applications to info@rosiecreekfarm.com.  If you have any questions about our intern program, please call us at 907-479-3642.
